What Causes Anxiety

The simplest way to describe anxiety is as ‘a feeling of uneasiness’ - the kind of feeling one may get if they are undertaking something for the first time, sitting an exam or are concerned about their own, or a loved one’s, health. This type of feeling is extremely common and is a natural part of a person’s life.

We’ve all felt anxiety attacks of one level or another, that moment of terror when our heart races, blood drains from our faces and we wonder if we’re going to pass out. For more than ten percent of us these feelings aren’t momentary and don’t pass. Expensive drugs and psychological therapy are one answer, but there are natural anxiety cures as well that are far more accessible.

First of all, anxiety symptoms are basically the same as the instinctive fight or flight response. This response is instinctive and is designed to increase your survival when faced with a life threatening situation such as being attacked by a wild animal or having to escape from a burning building. This is normal. The problem is that people who develop anxiety disorders responds in this instinctive way to imagined threats to their immediate survival such as driving to work or having some unknown and incurable disease.

A sign of anxiety for shyness includes feelings of awkwardness and insecurity in unfamiliar circumstances while being with other people – talking, asking favors, etc. The Catch 22 is that shyness often perpetuates itself because the unfamiliar situation or circumstance remains unfamiliar and therefore remains avoided. So it takes concentrated effort of will to overcome the insecurity, or sometimes a young person grows out of it as they mature and gain more experience interacting with life.

Anxiety causes can be small, not every panic attack is brought on by a huge occurrence. The general, most common causes tend to be situational such as phobias, large crowds, public speaking or tight spaces. Many sufferers fall into this category and feel anxious at these type of situations. This can be brought on from other occurrences in a persons life that completely destroys confidence.

Another cause of anxiety is when something terrible does actually happen to you. This is a form of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. This often times stems from something traumatic that happened during childhood and so even though from an outsider’s view you anxiety may seem unreasonable and unfounded, since you have actually lived through your feared result the fear seems completely rational and founded to you.

Anxiety treatment – like the anxiety that we experience – is varied; depending on the severity and frequency of the episodes and the personal needs of the sufferer. Those battling ongoing anxiety often experience persistent heightened levels of panic and fear – either in general or in response to particular situations. The treatment that will bring relief must be decided between patient and doctor and only comes after a comprehensive examination and proper diagnosis.

Herbal Anxiety. Treatment Many herbs have a calming effect, and unlike synthetic chemicals, they have no addictive qualities or heavy side-effects. Ginseng, Lemon Balm, Valerian, St. John’s Wort, Kava Kava, Bugleweed, Catnip and Chamomile have all been used effectively to deal with stress and anxiety. These herbs can be found at any health food store, and often even in grocery or department stores. Unlike the SRI’s no prescription is needed, so attempting an herbal remedy is an easy first choice before resorting to harsher chemicals in attempting an anxiety treatment.

Aromatherapy is another method. In fact, it is an ancient method of healing and can be effective at treating the anxiety. The essential oils you will be using will help the body have its normal balance. The scents will induce relaxation, which will allow you to gain control of your emotions and mind. Aromatic oils can reduce those feelings of panic and anxiety that one is having.

The symptoms of the disorder are clear – increased heart rate, dizziness, shortness of breath, muscle tension, headaches, and nausea – but what causes anxiety is slightly more complicated.

There is currently no one definitive cause of anxiety, and a variety of factors contribute to the likelihood of an individual developing the disorder or an attack. Genetics, brain chemistry, environmental and social stresses, drug use, and medications have all been linked to causing anxiety, whether individually or in a combination of factors.

Some research has suggested that a person’s family history can increase their chances of developing anxiety, particularly social anxiety disorder. Scientists have discovered a variation in genes that are linked to shy and inhibited behavior in children, and introverted personalities in adults. This tendency to develop anxiety may be passed on from generation to generation through family genetics.

Perhaps more common than anxiety caused by genetics, external factors such as abuse, death of a loved one, divorce, job loss or changes, substance abuse, and stress all play a role in contributing to anxiety in individuals. These factors can cause anxiety in the form of excessive worrying about health, money, family, school, work, and relationships. In many cases, the worry associated with anxiety can interfere with a person’s daily functioning and dominate their everyday life.

Many people affected by anxiety experience irritability, difficult concentrating, sweating, restlessness, ongoing tension, tiredness, trembling, difficulty sleeping, and an unrealistic view of their problems which caused the initial anxiety.

While the causes of anxiety are many, there are a variety of treatments for those who suffer, which often include a combination of medication and behavioral therapy. Psychiatrists and mental health professionals often treat anxiety with a class of drugs known as benzodiazepines, also known as tranquilizers which leave the individual feeling calm and relaxed. Other options include therapy sessions in which a patient learns to recognize the causes of anxiety in their own life and how to change thought patterns and behaviors that lead to feelings of anxiousness which interfere with social activities and relationships.

What Causes Anxiety Premenstrual syndrome effects over 70% to 90% of women before menopause in the US and less for women in Southeast Asia because of their difference in living style and social structure. The occurrence of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) have more than doubled over the past 50 years due to the acceptance of it as a medical condition that is caused by unhealthy diet with high in saturated food.

Premenstrual syndrome is defined as faulty function of the ovaries related to the women’s menstrual cycle, it effects a women’s physical and emotional state, and sometimes interferes with daily activities as a result of hormone fluctuation. The syndrome occurs one to two weeks before menstruation and then declines when the period starts.

In this article, we will discuss what causes anxiety in PMS.

1. Hormone imbalance For what ever reason, women with PMS are found to have high levels of estrogen and low levels of progesterone. It may be caused unbalance of omega fatty acid, deficiency of certain minerals and vitamins, digestive disorder in nutrients absorption, etc, resulting in increasing symptoms of anxiety of PMS.

2. Sluggish liver Besides helping to detoxify the body and fighting against invasion of foreign substances such as virus, bacteria and abnormal cell growth, liver play an important role in providing nutrients to the nervous system in fat and protein metabolism. Unfortunately, most women with PMS are found to have a sluggish liver during menstrual cycle resulting in nervous tension leading to anxiety.

3. Nutrients deficiency Deficiency of Omega 3 fatty acid or imbalance of fatty acid in the body during menstrual cycle as resulting of over consumption of saturated fat caused by interference of liver in fat and protein metabolism resulting in increasing tension of nervous system leading to anxiety.

4. Genetic passing through If your sister has it, you may also have it. For what ever reason, anxiety during menstrual cycle seems to run in the family. It may be caused by high levels of estrogen in the pool gene or reaction of certain glands in production of hormone during menstrual cycle.

5. Environment toxins Over exposure to toxic environment resulting in accumulation of xenoestrogen in the body during menstrual will lead to over production of bad estrogen and low levels of good estrogen to counter the reaction to the symptoms of PMS.
